The Concept

The City is in constant transition. Influxes of people, whether just passing quietly through the metropolis, interacting or even changing the face of the city directly – one thing remains constant: it is the population that defines the unique personalites and identities of the city.

We Are The City is a movement born from city living, with just one goal; to remind city dwellers about their surroundings. By showing the vibrance of their areas and exposing to them the idea that it is their movements and interactions that inform the city’s appearance and subsequent new identities.

Our aim is that by presenting this to the people, they will continue to connect and drive forward their unique relationship linking themselves and their city.

The motion piece begins at a slow pace, set in the early morning, and gradually progresses through the day’s cycle, using it to help guide the narrative of the city through its people.

As the film develops into morning and afternoon, the amount of people in the scenes is increased to reflect the coming together of the population, and thus the forming of the city. As night draws, the city again changes, taking on a new personality, informed by a new host group of its inhabitants.

Through the video, we are effectively conveying the concept that the city is built around the people, and without them, there is only a shell of buildings; an infrastructure. <
